Everest Base Camp Trek

Trip Description

This trek is one of the great journeys of the Himalaya. It begins with a gentle introduction to Nepal’s mountain rhythm, then gradually climbs into the heart of Sherpa country, where villages cling to ridgelines, prayer flags flutter above stone walls, and the Dudh Koshi River cuts through deep valleys. Step by step, the scenery transforms from rhododendron forests and suspension bridges to high-altitude plateaus, glaciers, and the vast mineral world beneath Everest. Reaching Everest Base Camp is more than arriving at a legendary destination; it is the feeling of standing at the edge of the Khumbu Icefall, surrounded by peaks that have shaped mountaineering history, while daily life continues in the lodges and settlements that give this region its living, human character.

DAY 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu

On arrival at Kathmandu airport, you are met and transferred to your hotel. If you feel like stretching your legs, you can start exploring on foot right away, wandering through lively streets filled with incense, shopfronts, and hidden courtyards. This is the perfect moment for your first taste of masala tea or a plate of freshly steamed momos. Overnight in Kathmandu.

DAY 2 – Kathmandu to Ramechhap

You leave the capital by road and travel southeast toward Ramechhap, a small town used as a gateway for flights to Lukla during certain seasons. The drive offers an early glimpse of rural Nepal, with terraced hillsides, rivers, and village life unfolding along the road. You arrive in time to rest and prepare for the early start ahead. Overnight in Ramechhap.

DAY 3 – Ramechhap to Lukla, then Trek to Phakding

Very early in the morning, you take a flight to Lukla, the dramatic mountain airstrip that marks the beginning of the Everest region’s classic trails. The views during the flight are often unforgettable, with Himalayan ridges appearing suddenly as the plane approaches the valley. After landing, you meet the trekking team and begin walking along the Dudh Koshi river. The first day is designed to ease you into the trek, following a well paced trail through small settlements and greenery before reaching Phakding. Overnight in a lodge in Phakding.

DAY 4 – Phakding to Namche Bazaar

You continue up the valley, crossing the Dudh Koshi on bold suspension bridges and passing through villages where mani stones and prayer wheels line the path. The trail becomes more demanding as you enter the Sagarmatha National Park area and begin the long climb through forest. As you gain height, the air cools, the views widen, and Namche Bazaar finally appears, built like an amphitheatre into the mountain. This is the Sherpa capital and the most important hub in the region, filled with lodges, shops, bakeries, and mountain energy. Overnight in a lodge in Namche.

DAY 5 – Namche Bazaar, Acclimatization Day

A full day here is essential to help your body adjust. You can keep it restful and slow, enjoying Namche’s atmosphere and viewpoints, or choose a short acclimatization walk to nearby villages and ridges where the high peaks begin to reveal themselves more clearly. The goal is to sleep at the same altitude, while letting your body adapt through light movement. Overnight in a lodge in Namche.

DAY 6 – Namche to Tengboche

The day begins with a descent toward Phunki Tenga before crossing the river and climbing steadily to Tengboche. The setting becomes increasingly dramatic, with mountain walls rising above the trail and the landscape opening toward iconic Himalayan silhouettes. Tengboche is known for its monastery, one of the spiritual centers of the region, set beneath the unmistakable pyramid of Ama Dablam. The afternoon is a beautiful time to visit, when the light softens and the mountains feel close enough to touch. Overnight in a lodge in Tengboche.

DAY 7 – Tengboche to Dingboche

You descend through rhododendron and woodland toward the Imja Khola, then continue toward Pangboche, one of the oldest Sherpa villages in the region, surrounded by pine and juniper. Beyond this point, the valley begins to feel more open and alpine. The climb to Dingboche brings you into a higher altitude landscape of stone walls, sparse vegetation, and expanding views. Lhotse dominates the skyline with its immense face, and the trek starts to feel unmistakably Himalayan in scale. Overnight in a lodge in Dingboche.

DAY 8 – Dingboche to Chhukung

Today takes you slightly away from the main trail, heading toward Chhukung and the approach to Island Peak base area. The setting grows more glacial and stark, with bright ridges, cold streams, and the sense of being deep inside the high mountains. This is a shorter day designed to support acclimatization and rest before the more demanding stages ahead. Overnight in a lodge in Chhukung.

DAY 9 – Dingboche to Gorak Shep, then Everest Base Camp

You continue your gradual ascent toward Gorak Shep, the final settlement before Everest Base Camp. From here, you set out for the out and back walk to Base Camp, moving across rocky ground shaped by ice and altitude. Reaching Everest Base Camp is a powerful moment. The Khumbu Glacier stretches nearby, and the Khumbu Icefall is an immense frozen chaos of towers and crevasses, shifting and glittering in the light. You take time to absorb the atmosphere before returning to Gorak Shep. Overnight in a lodge in Gorak Shep.

DAY 10 – Kala Patthar at Sunrise, then Trek to Pheriche

Before dawn, you climb Kala Patthar, the classic viewpoint for the Everest region. As the sun rises, the panorama builds peak by peak, revealing Everest, Nuptse, Changtse, and the surrounding giants in sharp, early light. After descending back to Gorak Shep, you continue down toward Pheriche, where the air feels thicker and the landscape slowly begins to soften. Overnight in a lodge in Pheriche.

DAY 11 – Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

You descend steadily, and vegetation begins to return. Juniper and pine reappear, and the trail feels more sheltered as you pass through Pangboche again and follow the river gorge back into the greener belt of the valley. The final approach returns you to Namche, where warm food, familiar streets, and the sense of coming full circle make the evening especially satisfying. Overnight in a lodge in Namche.

DAY 12 – Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Your last trekking day follows the Dudh Koshi valley back toward Lukla, passing villages you now recognize, crossing the same bridges with a new sense of familiarity, and completing the final climb into Lukla. This evening carries a special mood, a chance to share a final meal in Sherpa country and say goodbye to the team that supported the journey. Overnight in a lodge in Lukla.

DAY 13 – Lukla to Ramechhap, then Kathmandu

You fly from Lukla back to Ramechhap, then continue by road to Kathmandu. Mountain flights depend heavily on weather conditions, and changes or delays are always possible. On arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a free afternoon to rest, shower, and return to city life. Overnight in Kathmandu.

DAY 14 – Kathmandu, Buffer Day

This day is kept as a safety buffer in case Lukla flights are delayed. If not needed for logistics, it becomes a welcome extra day to explore the capital more deeply. You can visit Swayambhunath, the famous hilltop stupa often called the Monkey Temple, walk around the vast stupa of Boudhanath, or explore the sacred riverside complex of Pashupatinath from the viewpoints across the Bagmati. Thamel is also ideal for relaxed shopping and café time. Overnight in Kathmandu.

DAY 15 – Departure

Enjoy your final morning in Nepal, soaking in the last sounds and colors of Kathmandu. If time allows, a final plate of momos or a quiet tea break is the perfect farewell. At the appropriate time, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
